It is an annual subscription service, and if you like listening to the games as I always have, for less than a dime a game it's a steal. Much better than $13 a month for XM only to have to listen to the opponents' broadcasters jeering your team when they play on the road.

I've never purchased mlb.tv, but I do have an NHL GameCenter Live subscription, which I love. (I didn't realize MLB had live games on their app).

With the NHL package, I'm able to watch all (out of market) live games on my PC, phone or tablet (and I've used all 3) on a single subscription, and the quality is excellent. I have my PC attached to my TV via HDMI, and the streaming quality is near HD TV quality.

My advice would be to just make sure you know what you're getting before you buy the package. Last season, for example, with the NHL package, the same subscription could not be used to get live games on mobile devices, which I was unaware of when I bought -- I was VERY glad they listened to complaints and changed that this year!

As far as the "is it worth it to spend money on an online streaming package?" vs. a TV package, well it is for me. My cable provider doesn't even have the various sports packages available in HD, so the online stream is much better quality than I could get through them.

Hope this helps! Go O's! (yeah, yeah, I know...they suck).

Make sure you look into it because if memory serves me right if your inside a viewing area you will be blacked out. For example i think its safe to assume your a yanks fan...if your in NYC area and the game is shown on yes you may be blacked out. This is the third year i have purchased At Bat and its worth every penny. I work nights but can still listen to every Sox game and the best part is you get the choice to listen to the home or away broadcast. Nothing beats listening to Vin Scully call a baseball game. Besides call me old school but baseball is best on the radio.

"The Sox" have Remy not Scully. The Cubbies are worth rooting for though. The Hawk was a Red Sox star so I have no love for his team. He should have stayed in Boston where he belonged.

I was thinking of subscribing to mlb to watch Sox games but all Sox games are on NESN and I'm not interested in other teams so if local games are blacked out it isnt worth it.

Yes recDNA the Sox have Remy on TV. But even I as a Sox fan cannot stand Joe C. the radio voice. So i find myself listening to the other teams broadcast (except for the Yank's because its a lose-lose situation because the both stink) I refrenced Vin Scully because of the games they played against the Dodgers. I also find myself on Sox off nights listening to other teams. To get the radio broadcast of 162 games for each major league team for $15 is very worth it.
