...in media. Why can I only send 2 pictures in one MMS? Why can I only send a few seconds of a video through email OVER WIFI? Is there any way around this? I hate it! I don't want to have to send multiple messages to someone to show them a few pictures, and I don't want to be forced to take videos off my phone and put them on my computer to send them to someone because they're too big.

Anyone have any suggestions? This is one of those minor things that will probably get me to ditch my Nexus One when the new iPhone comes out because it's really starting to annoy me, but I don't want to have to do that. Thanks.

-AT&T 3G Nexus One

I've sent huge video over standard email. No problem.
Check with your email provider regarding message max size.

With Picasa integration, why email it anyway? Just upload it and send a link.

MMS file size is limited by the carrier, not the phone. If I remember correctly, the limit for AT&T MMS is 600KB. While I haven't tried it personally, you may have better luck if the pictures are compressed to smaller sizes.

What I mean is that if you are trying to send two pics, which the Nexus One has compressed to about 300KB when inserting into the MMS, that is why you can only send two. But if you manually compress (or take pics at lower resolution) and they are only 100K (for example), you'd be able to send however many fit within the 600KB limit.

This is just an assumption. I personally haven't tried sending more than one pic in a single MMS yet on my Nexus One. But the size limitation is in fact a carrier limitation, not a phone one.

Well I can send more pictures on my iPhone 3GS than I can on my Nexus. If it is the size, then the iPhone is doing a hell of a good job since the pictures don't seem to lose any (or much) quality.

And @ icebike, I'm sending the pictures through the Gmail app with my Gmail email. What are you using to send emails?

You can send as many pictures through MMS if you don't surpass the allowed size. Which I think is 900K or less, don't quote me on that, it differs with Carriers.

Also, for that to happen, you may have to resize the image, and it's not like everyone has a 3.5inch screen on their phones anyways, it may do it automatically.

As far as the video goes, you can send 30 seconds? Just make sure you change the settings of the video recording before recording.

It's not that hard, please do look and see if you can fix it before going on forums and bashing.

Are you talking to me? Who am I bashing? And no, I can't send 30 seconds of video. Its more like 10, if I can even send a video that long. I can't even send 30 seconds video through email.

OMG I got it now! Thanks for all your help!!

Channan, if you won't even try to take a moment to comprehend what anyone is telling you, it is hopeless for any of us to try to help you.

As a test - I sent 39 small pics (icons) as a single MMS message (Sprint allows 1024K).

On Wifi I sent a 22MB cad file from one Android phone to another, as well as to and from the desktop via Gmail.

Your problems are network limitations.

yes i have this problem too, i can only send an 8 second MMS video. this is because when i check the video file size, it hits 300K and then stops the video and says i have reached my limit. now ATT is supposed to be 600K limit, but for some reason i am limited to 300k.

i think this is a bug with the nexus one.

I had been thinking about the Iphone lately. I just am kinda sick of waiting for Sprint to release phones (I know they are coming). I have an Ipod touch and really like how it works. I have the Hero now for a phone and like it also. Anyways just got off the phone with AT&T to inquire about getting three Iphones for a family plan to have the same I do with Sprint. IT would cost $100 more a month to have the same plan on AT&T as I have on Sprint right now. That is crazy. I will stick with Sprint and ANDROID.

ock, if you won't even try to take a moment to comprehend what I am telling you, it is hopeless for you to try to help me.

I get it. It's a network thing. That's why I can't send more than two pictures or videos longer than a few seconds. Apparently the iPhone just does a better job at compressing and keeping high quality.

But that still doesn't explain why I can't send a 30 second video via email OVER WIFI. A few people are telling me they've sent large files through email, but how does that help me? It doesn't.

Don't forget that your megapixels are different on each camera (iPhone 3Gs = 3mp? verse Nexus one = 5mp) - so even if you set the resolution both to 1024x768, the a camera with more megapixels is simply going to have a bigger files size - so unless you compare apples to apples :-) - you cannot compare. Same goes with video size.

I figured that would affect it but not that much. IDK I'm tempted to go back to the iPhone when the new one comes out. I really love this phone but attention to detail makes the iPhone less annoying sometimes.

I guess it is what you are use too - but yes, the size is different by a fair amount - even if it a hair over the limit of what you got away with before - a hair is a hair.

BTW, just out of curiousty - why don't you post the file size difference - it could be an eye opener. :-)

I don't know if this will help, or not, but have you checked to see if you have any restrictions that might have been set on the server side, on your Gmail account?

I just tried sending about 7MB worth of files to myself, no problems whatsoever. I'm using a Droid, on Verizon. I've tried sending both over WiFi and over 3G with no issues. Your issue could come from the phone, the carrier, or a combination of the two.

I came from the iPhone 3G (and Palm Pre, and HTC Hero, I've jumped around a lot) to the Droid. While Android lacks some of the fit and finish of the iPhone, I still think Android is better overall. The freedom you have with the OS is second to none.

If you decide to go back to the iPhone, best of luck. The new iPhone is going to be one heck of a machine. If you stick with Android, you might be impressed, as well. It's all based on personal preference, and what works for you.

I just tried sending a 7MB song through email with the Gmail app and it said the file was too large. Are there any other email apps that will let me send larger files?

are you using the GMAIL app? Or using the mobile site?

That is not true, the megapixel capacitiy of the camera just defines how large of a resolution you can shoot. Now if you set the compression higher when shooting at 1024x768 that could make a size difference. So setting both cameras to the same resolution (1024x768 in this case) you CAN compare apples to apples given they both using similar compression, and the compression doesnt have anything to do with one camera having a higher megapixel capability. If you set both cameras to shoot at 1024x768, they are both going to use the same quantity of pixels. Given that the iphone is a 3mp camera and the nexus one is 5mp, then the nexus one can shoot at a higher resolution, so set both cameras to their max resolutions, the nexus one pic will be larger because it will be a higher resolution and in that case, then yes, there will be more pixels on that pic, hence a larger file size. If you are shooting at 1024x768, you arent shooting at 5mp.
