Mms stopped working on pixel 3

[Android Central Question]

A couple days ago I noticed that my mms messages between me and my fiance who also has a pixel 3 changed to sms messages and not the mms messages with the dark blue text bubbles. He also can't see my shared location anymore. I seem to remember that earlier that morning there was a window that popped up when I opened the messages app that said something to the effect of "do you want to use the new messages settings?" I didn't read it all the way through and I clicked yes but that's when everything got funky. I want to go back and I was thinking of clearing the cache but I've never done that before and don't know if it'll work or if it'll delete all my text threads? Did anyone else get this message? Can anyone help me go back to the way it was a couple days ago? I've tried everything.

Clearing the cache won't delete anything. (The cache is temporary storage that should get cleared every time you close the app.) I don't think it will reset your setting, though. Go to Settings (the 3 dots at the upper right) > Advanced (you have to scroll down a bit) and see if you have the settings like this:
