MMS Video splitting into JPG and QCP files - Why?

When I get sent a text message with a video file, it only comes in as a JPG or series of JPG's (very low quality) and a separate audio QCP file. This happens for videos from any sender (Android or iPhone) and if I try to access the MMS from the stock Samsung message app or Chomp SMS. I searched and the only other occurrence I could find of this, the solution was to totally wipe and reformat the phone, which isn't helpful. I want to access the videos that were sent to me, if I reformat I won't be able to get them.

Any thoughts or ideas I should look into?
Phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon running Android 6.0.1

UPDATE as of 27SEP - still no answer to this question, and it's still happening.

Has you gotten an answer to this? I'm having the same problem with my phone. I actually did a Factory Reset, and I still have this problem! Thanks,
