Mobile VS. WiFi data restriction, how can I restrict background data only on mobile data?

Mobile VS. WiFi data restriction

I had a 64GB note 5 through ATT and was able to restrict background data only on mobile yet I was able to leave background data restriction off on wifi. On my new 32GB Verizon note 5 i turn on background datat restriction on mobile and it applies it to wifi as well.

Is there a way to restrict background data ONLY on mobile?

Were you connected to wifi when you set up the restrictions? If so, try turning off wifi and making sure you have 4G LTE when you're setting it up

no it still restricts background data on both mobile and wifi. looks like i have to do it manually do it each time.

Be connected to wifi, and then turn them back on. Then, disconnect from wifi and turn wifi off, and go back into the settings, and restrict them, and that will do it for data. This works on my phone (t-mobile note 5). It also worked on my previous phone (t-mobile note 2).
