Modding tablet to work without battery?

Hi,

My Nexus is quite old now. The original battery does not last that long-though still functioning. It takes a very long time to charge while on. However, it can charge normally if the tablet is turned off.. I bought a battery from ebay, but I think its a fraudulent battery since the battery charge is going down ever since I bought it despite charging it continuously. I still have the original battery. Now, since this fake battery is no good, and the original is still working, I was wondering if it is possible to rewire the fake battery wires so that the tablet thinks its on a fully charged battery.

I am hoping of turning this into a permanent clock either hanged or on the table. Similar to the clocks that run of electricity. If this is possible, does anyone know which wires to reconnect? I have soldering skills and a soldering and wiring kit. I think this is the best use I can find for the tablet. Save me some money buying a digital wall clock with temperature or if I need a digital picture frame, I can use the tablet as well.

Secondly, since I've given a good review rating to the seller on ebay, is it possible for me to re-review or get my money back or report a fraudulent product?

Thanks for the help

Have you tried powering up the tablet after plugging it in with the battery pulled?

The battery taking a long time to charge issue.....are you using the original charger? If not you need a charger with a higher amp output. As far as battery swap wiring there is a YouTube video for that....

Yes. I am using the original charger. I noticed that changing to a different high power charger charges it faster.

Where is this youtube video for removing the battery?

Do you speak Spanish? There is a youtube video on how to bridge the battery circuits to trick tablets into detecting a removed battery as plugged and charging. in some rare cases tablets can boot without battery by default, I own two of those, they are 7" Techpad Xtab -781+ and 10" Techpad Xtab C dual 1081 HD. I got the 781 in pieces from a friend, exchanged for a 1st gen 1GB iPod Nano that I hated and after putting it back together I forgot to solder the battery to the Mother board yet it booted. I tried with the other one and worked too.
Also you can replace the battery with phone batteries, as long as they are the same voltage as the original battery and the sum of their amps at least equals that of the original battery you can wire them and it will work. Samsung batteries are somewhat inexpensive, small and slim enough to fit 2 in most tablets, thus you could charge new life into your tablet rather than making it high tech paperweight.....

Unfortunately I don't :(

I found this video:
youtube.com/watch?v=AAsAICCzUsk

Do you think it will work?

Just to report that this guide works. I have not had any problems. I've also soldered the connection and tape it. Took me about an hour. Thanks all for the help

Hi,
Unfortunately the video is not available anymore. :( Can you share it again please, I'm really interested in. Thanks!

Cut all wires as near to the battery as possible. Then, black wire goes to black, red goes with red.
Cut a usb wire not used, exposed the black and red wires. Then Black to black, red to red. Trim all other wires.

It should work. I've already soldered and taped mine, so it would not be much help in showing how its done

I use my original Droid X with the Motorola desk dock as a clock, music and video player in my bathroom. Has been powered up with the original battery for over 3 years now. If I take it off the charger it does not last long. I am not worried much about leaving it plugged in. Does not even get warm and I check it every now and then. I will probably change out the battery next year.

Leaving the battery inside does not work with the original Nexus 7. It will not charge the battery and the device just dies. I now have it permanently wired as desk clock. I used the dock clock app which moves the display slightly to prevent burn-in of screen on a new generic google account. So if someone does decide to snoop on the account, nothing will be there.

The clock has been on for months now. If there is a power outage, then I will need to manually turn the app on again. Otherwise, no one in the house touches the device since its now meant to be a clock.

Hello
I once managed to run a phone with a dead battery by soldering a capacitor to its battery pins.
Hope it helps.
