More Details on the Design Changes on Fold

As much as I want this phone I have a feeling it isn’t going to launch. Samsung has been incredibly quiet about it. Makes me nervous.

Even worse I think it may launch. Allegedly fixed the gap by shrinking it rather than closing it. Seems like a bad solution.

Well the tucking into the body is a no brainer so that will take care of that. But as far as reducing the gap, hopefully they test thoroughly and will have confidence it will be thoroughly tested... because they will be under the microscope on this fix and be worse if large enough for a grain of sand to get in and mess up a $2k phone.

I wonder if they originally decided not to tuck the outer layer because will all the folding and unfolding that if secured all around the edges that the constant unfolding and folding could cause some sort of pressure and eventual separation of the two layers at the crease? hmm.

Amy further "adjustments" and you're bordering on redesign, and possibly saying goodbye to getting this thing out in 2019.

Good luck to them...

I think if they don’t launch it that it may doom it in the future. People will see it as a failure.

Yes they would. But if they launch a Frankenstein product with a couple of bandaids that will be even worse. The right call is to scrap it. Admit it wasn’t ready and tell your customers you’ll do better next time.

My gut tells me they will launch it. I don't know if it's a good or bad move but I'm not buying. Good luck to those that do.

That's a big IF though. Why scrap it if you've fixed the problem?

Yep. That unfortunately is the only way to grow future models is to get people using them daily. Even if it's a relatively small group of initial users.
Difference now with generation 1 here is the price tag is $2,000. Generation 1 note and s series was $200-$300.

I was interested in a folding phone, but I've been given time to think it over and starting to think it's overkill to get more sales. So this delay is giving people time to think. I don't know if a thicker phone is worth it.

Right, but the first Note was also several years ago. Adjust for today's inflation, and the first Note would easily be 1,000 bucks. And I didn't jump on the Note bandwagon until the Note 3. They were far too big and expensive until then lol

Imagine if they were $2,000 back then, they wouldn't sell much, if any. I truly feel that if there wasn't payment programs and people had to dish out hard cash for phones the sales would drop. I paid cash up front for my S10+, and I thought a lot harder on pushing the purchase button. Lol

Funny how inflation raises prices for products a lot faster then wages. I think more people had more disposable income best then also.

Personally I'm done with 1,000 flagships. I'm never spending that on a phone again. 500-700 phones are just too good now, without all that much compromise.

As for a future fold, like flat screen 4K TVs, I'll wait for the price to come down under 1,000, and then access whether they offer something I need at that point.

I'd say most people owning one is at least 2 years away.

Ironically it seems like phones is the only tech going up instead of down. PCs are dirt cheap compared to what they used to be with exception of the higher end. Flat panel television is down too. When will phones catch up?

Once folks stop upgrading, and go back to keeping their 2 year old iPhone, which is already happening lol

True that sales have grown stagnant but if they push 5G or some other tech is released that excited the masses that could change. We are still seeing upward spikes from the likes of the big players'.
