more phones like razr maxx?

So I have been an avid smartphone enthusiast and switched to android this year so I could finally have top notch hardware. My phone of choice was the epic 4g touch which, in my opinion is one of the best phones I've seen, mostly due to it's screen quality, camera and fairly high speced other options. However, next time around, I would really like a phone to last a whole day, regardless of what I do with it. This never seemed like a reality until the razr maxx came out. As far as screen quality and specs it may not be the best. but it's one of the thinnest, longest lasting phone out.

So here is a good question.... Why haven't more phones with this technology been released?.... I have watched several new phones be announced and none have the amazing 3300 mah battery from the maxx This, to me is frustsrating because it means that manufacturers are not putting battery life as a priority despite it being something many people who avidly use smartphones want. It has been proven that a day lasting battery is possible with all the (at the time high end specs) as well as a thin profile (still thinner then my galaxy s2 epic.)

This year we have introduced thinner more powerfull processors as well as better imaging for cameras, but to run these more powerful technologies, the batteries are not really cranking up the juice much.

For me, a perfect phone would have a 4.5 - 4.8 inch samoled plus screen, a modern processor and gpu at the time of purchase, highest amount of ram offered at the time, 16 gb internal space with expandable mico sd, 8+ mpx camera with back lite sensor and all other modern tech) nfc, all normal radios, and it's thickness is as thin as it can be with that technology in it. (sorry, I am not a believer that a phones ability to be the "thinnest" is more important than battery life and if the razr maxx can do it, I am positive others can produce something similar...). I also would like to see more of the high end phones look as little like the iphone as possible. Every smartphone I have had looked similar to it in someway, whether it be shaped the same, or have an overall similar look. I like the galaxy s3 designs and the htc one series look.

So is there a reason that new phones coming out are not including the 3300 mah battery or similar?? Will it take the iPhone getting a battery like this to actually see it in all smartphones?

I agree but the manufactures are focusing on making their phones more efficient for now. The htc one x has great battery life with just 1800mah, the iphone 4s lasts on 1440. I feel like their customer research shows that more people value the thiness over the battery life (we have apple to thank for that). I feel like we will get to a point where more phones have bigger batteries but it is a year away at least

I think there's two different schools of thought. One is to get longer battery life through bigger batteries or easier charging methods. The other is to get longer battery life via more efficient use of existing size batteries.

Personally I prefer the latter, there's a lot we can do to prevent the phone from using so much power, from more efficient CPUs to automating more of the phones functions. Smart Actions in the Razr is a nice start, but it barely scratches the surface. Apps like Green Power, Juice Defender and even Tasker go further, but some of them, particularly Tasker are far to difficult for the average user. Green Power is probably best in this regard.

While I think we do need bigger batteries, 2500mah should be the new standard, we need efficiency in the hardware and in the OS even more.

I do agree with this. We need more EFFECIENT battery usage as well. As someone stated above, some newer phones or the iphone use more battery efficiency... hell the iPhone always seems to outlast everything in battery usage. I am not sure if this is due to multitasking, but honestly, I feel like both multitask the same. If I leave an app unused for a while most of the time, it will just restart when I switch to it, just like the iPhone and windows phone.

I used to use the efficiency apps, but then I noticed that I was not getting notifications the way I needed. I was missing emails, or messages or other notifications that relied on syncing because some of those battery savers basically concentrate on the syncing as a battery saver.

I know there are several battery saving techniques, but I have a smartphone, and I don't think I should have to have gps off, or turn of syncing, to have a battery last a day with moderate usage. I hope that smartphones eventually reach a happy medium to where even a heavy user can last a day.

Well Motorolahas been quiet latelyso im ccrossing fingers there going to come out and wow us

The Motorola Mobility / Google acquisition just got approval and is expected to close soon. I'd say new devices will coming out shortly with some more wow factor.

On another note, phone battery life can last long enough if the right settings are worked. For example don't run around all day using 4G just because you can. Ita the little things like using 3G instead of 4G that will extend your phone usage throughout the day.

It feels like Motorola's cycle is Summer and Winter.

I'd love to see a Nexus device come out with a stock battery as big as the one in the Droid Razr Maxx! That would be so awesome.

I thought there was no way to turn off 4G/LTE?

You can toggle the Network Mode in the Mobile Network Settings.

I wish there was a widget that wasn't just a shortcut to that setting.

Is this just for the RAZR maxx? I thought the carriers removed that ability in phones like the One X and probably the S3?

I'm pretty sure the Motorola LTE phones for Verizon have this setting. Might be in a different place for other manufacturers for Verizon phones.

I agree, manufacturers should be simply putting larger capacity batteries in today's smart phones. Current smart phones are powerful computing devices with large screens, dual core processors, 4g radios, Bluetooth, WiFi, and more. I shouldn't have to turn off functionality of the phone to get it to last one day. That is the reason I have a Thunderbolt with the HTC extended battery. Sure, it's bulky and heavy, but I rarely have to worry about battery life. Unfortunately, I place most of the blame on consumers. Money talks, and when a phone is released that is touted as being "thin", "thinnest", "amazingly slim", or whatever, people go crazy over them and the manufacturer sells tons of them, then goes on to attempt to make an even thinner phone. I would gladly add a few millimeters of thickness to my phone, for a larger capacity battery that lasts a full day of use. The Razr Maxx is a step in the right direction. Other manufactures should follow their lead.

Check the network settings. There are also widgets in the play store which may work. I don't see why carriers want you on 4G constantly since you'll likely consume more data faster. There should be something there to use 3g only.

Their 4G/LTE networks are less congested and when you use more data they will make more money due to overage charges or people switching to higher data plans.

The main reason the iPhone battery last so long is the screen size. The screen is the main battery drain, and when you only have a 3.5" screen, then you're phone last all day. I suspect that you don't want a 3.5" android phone though. ;)

If Android wasn't based around java the battery problem wouldn't have been much of an issue. Hopefully that one person porting android to C++ will be successful which means longer battery life and smoother OS without the need for quad core and 12 core gpu.
