Most recent vs "top" stories

Hey there! I'm having a problem and im getting very frustrated with it, so i thought id come and ask the experts XD

I have a Sony Xperia E, on which i frequently make use of the built in facebook app. Generally speaking, i never updated it from the pre-installed version when i bought the phone in September, because the basic version served my needs perfectly.
However, earlier this month i tried to open it up as usual, but was confronted with a forced update, taking me to version 3.9. I tried to downgrade to factory, but on opening it up, again was told i needed to update to continue using the app.
The only problem is, my news feed is now stuck on the "top stories" setting, instead of most recent, with most posts being from 1 or 2 days ago, and very few new posts showing. This is obviously very annoying, and i really wanna change it back. However, ive searched everywhere in the app, and cannot find a way of doing it, and an online search for help yielded nothing. This morning, i saw a new update had been released, so updated to this new 4.0 hoping it would have the setting included again, but im still very much stuck on how to do it :/

Would anyone be able to help me?

Here's what I would do.

Go to your app manager, and tap on Facebook. Tap on uninstall. This should revert it back to the version that it came with from the factory. While you're there, also click on "clear cache" and "clear data". Reboot. Once it boots up, the app should prompt you to update -- so go ahead and update.

Once it's updated, you'll have to log in again because you cleared the database which includes your log-in info.

Ok, now that you're logged in to Facebook, look at the top left (the 3 horizontal bars stacked on top of each other). Tap that, and then tap the gear icon next to "news feed". change that to Most Recent.

I know for a while my Facebook app kept reverting to "Top Stories" until I took those steps. Hopefully it helps you!
