Moto Assist and Google Hangouts

I'd like to start using Hangouts as my primary messaging app instead of Messaging. But one thing stops me from making the switch - Moto Assist. It seems like I read somewhere that Moto Assist will not perform properly in regards to SMS if Hangouts is the default SMS app. Is this true? I tried to experiment on my own and the results seemed to back up that information. Do any of you have Hangouts as your default SMS app and if so does Moto Assist operate properly (as it does with Messaging as the default app)? Thanks in advance.

I use hangouts for sms, and they get read out while I'm driving, and I can dictate and send texts via Google Now. Is it supposed to offer further functionality?

I don't think so. So you are saying that Moto Assist works fine for you with Hangouts as the default SMS app then? No difference in operation while driving? I do a lot of driving for my job and this feature is important to me.

I use hangouts as well for my default sms app and moto assist works perfect.

I'm also using Hangouts for SMS and I haven't noticed any problems with Assist.
