Especially on a network like Verizon where the modem packages are going to be proprietary. Motorola can't necessarily just push an update to the VZW version if that update is dependent upon Verizon for compatible radios. It's the same situation we saw with the Galaxy Nexus. Google can do everything possible on their end to make images available, but at the end of the day, if they're missing what Verizon provides due to licensing issues, then it is what it is.Did you even read that? It says that updates come from Motorola. It says nothing about developer editions guaranteed of being updated before carrier versions.
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see GSM Developer Editions see some quicker updates, but no way are we going to see that on Verizon. If it's going to be any faster, it'll be by hours or a day or two at the most. The two devices are not radically different (especially with Verizon in the mix). It's not like it's a GPE device.
