Moto G as feature phone?

This might sound like a strange question, but does anyone know if you can use the Moto G without a data plan (i.e. just phone and texting over cell networks, with data from Wi-Fi only)?

I have a parent who would really benefit from a phone like this with Big Launcher and the Google-powered voice typing, but doesn't need email or the web when out and about (if at all from a mobile device).

Yes, you can buy a Moto G unlocked, and set up a plan with a phone company that offers pre-paid accounts.

Also, only if they don't know what the Moto G is. If it isn't in their database (or whatever) you might be able to get feature phone type plans. But if they have it listed, it's as a smartphone and they always require you get a data plan, unfortunately.

Yes you can do that with any unlocked Android phone. Just check if your carrier has a suitable plan.

They do require you get a data plan if they know you have a smartphone...

It will depend on the carrier. What carriers are you looking at?

Right now they are on Verizon, which I suspect would catch on to the situation.
