Moto G5 Plus wifi calling working intermitenly

My service provider is Mint Mobile (T-Mobile network). Bad cell signal at home so I depend on wifi calling. Curiously, my wifi calling works when the cell signal is decent. When the cell signal is gone, wifi calling stops working. Calls don't ring and hung up or they go directly to voicemail. Tested it with a friend across the country and he had the same issue. Moto told me to put it on safe mode and check to see if an app was creating the problem. Because of the intermittent nature of the problem, the safe mode test is useless. Help!

I found it to be sporadic when I used it on the s7 with att.
If I turned off data while in wifi call mode it worked better. Have to remember to turn it back on when done talking.
