Why do they even charge for a sim card? Guess I will need a new one since my Nexus 5 is micro not nano.

Prob just from a convenience standpoint form Moto for you not having to go to a store and get one. But, now that the phone is active in Verizon's system, they should just give you one for free if you go to a store and ask. That's what I did back when I needed one for my HTC Rezound at the time. I forget what I was coming from, but the sim size must have been different.

I am with T-Mobile and their sim kits are 15 dollars in store. This has been there policy since I got with them in 2012.

I also came from a Nexus 5 so if you can get one from Motorola do so. Moto is even cheaper than the DIY sim cutting tools on amazon.

A couple days ago I called T-Mobile customer care for a nano SIM (in preparation for my incoming Moto X obviously) and it was free unless I wanted to pay for expedited shipping (I didn't).

I didn't get charged back in March when I needed a nano SIM, since my old device used a micro SIM. I have no idea if that changed. I was out of contract for a year at that time.

Or free if you cut the SIM yourself using the online templates and scissors.

I got mine for free by doing online chat with VZ rep and telling them that I need a new 4FF (nanosim) for the MXPE. They had no issue sending me 2 (one for me and one for my wife) and shipped it via FedEx 2-day.

Got one in store for free today. Assigned it to my line but didn't activate it. Called 611 and they said store or phone rep could activate when phone comes.

Yep, that's their policy (just picked one up the other day). YMMV with resellers/independents.
