Moto X 2014 Can anyone help me set up my voice mail?

I purchased the Moto X 2014 and I am having trouble getting any voicemail to work. I have always used Google voice in the past, however it does not want to work on the Moto X. It just does not go to voicemail after 4 rings.
I uninstalled Google voice and I am now trying Verizon voicemail, however that has the same problem. Unanswered calls are not being redirected to voicemail and there is no place in the Verizon voicemail app to make any setting except greeting?

I haven't been able to get Google Voice to work reliably for Voicemail for more than a year now. I figured it was a combination of being on Verizon, the device I was using, and general Google Voice issues.

I can't seem to find it now, but there used to be a device setting for which number to use for Voicemail. I can't Google it now, but that's where I'd start for getting Verizon voicemail to work properly.

Google Voice is not working for me either on my Moto X. How do I disable my carrier VM to make GV take over? (att)
