Hi guys, I just switched from iPhone to the 2nd gen Moto X, and so far I'm very satisfied with its performance. However, I did run into one issue, where Google Now is not taking 'OK Google' anymore.

I really likes the feature of calling out the 'OK Google' search page. It worked fine for the first half day, then it stops working. I can't activate google search by saying 'OK Google' anymore.

I checked the configuration, it looks fine to me, 'Ok Google' detection is turned on, and language is English United States. I tried a couple of things I found on the internet, turning off all other apps to make sure they are not interrupting, clearing the cache... The Moto Voice works fine tho, which means there's nothing wrong with the microphone.

I can click the microphone icon in the Google box and say my commands, and google take them pretty well. However, if I go to the Google Now settings, Voice, "Ok Google" Detection, and select "From any screen", which leads me to train the device by saying "Ok Google" three times, it just doesn't listen to anything.

Does anybody has experience dealing with this?

Welcome to Android Central! When you cleared the cache, was it an app cache, or the system cache partition (in Recovery Mode)?

Re: Google Now stops working?

Ok, try wiping the system cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. This is the process for the 1st gen Moto X, but I suspect it will be the same for the 2nd gen: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/94946/p/30,6720,8696

Yes, the procedure for the 2013 X and the 2014 X are the same. Here's a link to the 2014 X support page just in case you want it.

I will also add that on mine (2014 X), I noticed when waking the screen - after a second or two the mic in the Google search bar would switch from solid to hollow indicating active voice listening turned off for Google. This happened consistently and no amount of adjustment or tinkering changed the behavior. I ultimately just turned off the Ok Google voice detection setting in Google Now. Using Moto Voice works flawlessly and it hands off to Google Now for many functions anyway and it's always listening (not just when the device's screen is on), so no loss. Perhaps there is some conflict between the two when they are used simultaneously???

Re: Google Now stops working?

I believe that you can only have one of them active at a time. So if Moto voice is active Google Now will be turned off and vice versa. Like said above if you use Moto Voice it does same as Google Now plus all the Moto stuff

Re: Google Now stops working?

Hi mhunter6378 and Kronk734 thank you for the reply. my Moto Voice and Google Now works pretty well together for the first couple hours. Based on my research, they two functions can co-exist with no problem, it's being specifically mentioned in the Moto Voice support page, but my account can't post link yet...

Re: Google Now stops working?

Thanks for the direction... I cleaned the system cache but that didn't solve the problem

Confused by what you are doing. You have set up voice activation with the command 'OK Google' as well as a second voice activation thru Moto Voice with a different phrase?

Yes that is what I'm trying to do, and they work well together for a couple hours until Google stops taking voice command

I HAVE THE SOLUTION. this has happened to me and i discovered that if you have the moto voice setup and running, it will disable the "okay google" feature. to enable "okay google" turn off moto voice. you can do this be accesing the moto app. it sucks that you cant use both voice commands at the same time. its either okay google or moto voice. i think this is a glitch and hope android l will remedy this :D

Re: Google Now stops working?

I had the same problem, and felt that it was weird coming from the Nexus 5. I thought I'd be able to use the Moto Voice trigger to trigger Moto Voice, and "OK Google" to trigger Google Now just like on the Nexus 5. It didn't work right, so I just disabled the voice activation feature in Google Now to make sure it wasn't somehow wasting battery life. Moto Voice seems pretty adept at sending your requests to Google Now anyway when it's necessary.

Re: Google Now stops working?

Surprised to find that Moto Voice is the problem... I spoke with someone from the Moto tech support team, and checked the Moto Voice website, both claimed that Moto X won't disable 'Google Now' Hope this is just a bug that they will fix soon

Re: Google Now stops working?

Maybe I'm confused by the distinction between Moto Voice (custom launch phrase) and OK Google Now (the 2013 Moto X launch phrase). If you use Moto Voice and ask a question that pulls up Wiki or some other web site and the answer is read aloud, isn't that Google Now doing the work? If you ask for directions and Google Maps is launched, isn't Google Now doing the work? I thought Moto Voice replaced OK Google Now and therefore there was no need for it. When do you need to use OK Google Now when Moto Voice does the same thing? Explain please.
