IFA has come and gone and we now have a lot of new devices to choose from. The device that most people were looking forward to seeing was definitely the new Moto X, and I wasn't disappointed. The device looks to be a solid device and is priced pretty well too. I was looking forward to it throughout the conference and was debating whether or not it would be worth upgrading to one from the Nexus 5. As an owner of a Nexus 5 (relatively new, only had it for a couple months), I'll admit that it's not a perfect device (mostly because of the camera and battery), but besides that, I have almost no problems with it. 5 inches is still pretty manageable with one hand (but barely), the hardware is very simple and clean, updates come quickly, custom roms are readily available, and the device performs perfectly (regardless of the age of the Snapdragon 800). The Moto X seems to be a great device, but I don't think I'll be upgrading to one any time soon. It's a little too big for my liking (5 inches is already big enough), the phone itself doesn't look as clean as the Nexus 5 (plastic will certainly age better than metal, wood, and leather. All of these materials being in the same phone doesn't look very good either), my main problems don't seem to be fixed (battery is still the same size, but with an even bigger screen and processor to power), and all for $150 more. However, if you currently have a really old phone, the Moto X will be a great choice.

My apologies if it was difficult to read, I'm typing this from my phone.

The Moto X is as good or better in most ways except 2:

  1. It's camera is way worse than the Nexus 5...maybe even worse than the 2013 Moto X. The samples I have seen so far do not fill me with confidence.
  2. No Wireless charging.

Other than that I am liking the new Moto X. Moto is the first decent 3rd party vendor Android has had in a long time.

I'm not saying that it's bad (or that the Nexus 5 is better), the X is more expensive for a reason. I'm just saying that for someone like myself who has purchased a high end phone relatively recently, I don't think it's worth getting. If you have anything older than a One M7, then it's a great buy, but anything after that will service you perfectly fine and the X won't be that big of an improvement. It hasn't fixed my problems with the Nexus 5 (which is why I won't be getting one), but Motorola has definitely done a great job with it (the best phone unveiled at IFA for sure).

I can tell you never had moto x 2014 going based on assumption. I had both nexus 5 and moto x2013 beside the specs the moto x was just as fast for phone that had 2012 end of year Soc. Same one that was on nexus 4 . Remember Nexus 4 really didn't run 2 of their 4 1.5 GHz quad core??? Moto x 2013 camera is better then nexus 4 and to be honest on par with nexus 5 without ois. Moto x 2014 regardless what you say have the same camera that in galaxy s4,lg g2 and xperia z. Meaning the culprit of the camera being horrible is Google not Motorola. Stock os sucks in camera that why companies like Samsung and lg modify their camera. Same for Sony and others.

Eh I don't believe that. But I took a decent amount of photos with the original X and I'm getting the new one so I can make a comparison when it arrives. Even the one posted by AndroidCentral look better than the 2013 version. It does get grainy in some situation though, but the same issue with the 2013 camera, which can be fixed using Camera FV-5 or other apps. I'm not expecting it to be as good as the OnePlus camera, but I do expect an enough improvement to use it as my main shooter.
