Moto X, Good Choice?

I currently own a Nexus 5, which I love. I am planning to buy a new phone in the coming months. I am waiting to see what HTC will show with the new One, otherwise my choices would be the Moto X or the Nexus 6, even if I have to understand if I can manage it.
What can you tell me about the Moto X? Are you happy with it? I want as much pure Android as possible, that is why I am looking for the Moto X.
I also love the tiny seasonal animal's animation that Motorola periodically pushes to the device.
I am waiting to know your opinions about this phone.
Thank you.

The X is a good phone and at a good price but it has a few shortcomings..

The Amoled screen is not the best and Moto skimped on it by going with a lessor display. The camera is hit and miss. Half the time I get good photos and the other half I get completely horrible photos.

Re: the seasonal boot animations, I think Moto must have killed this off as I don't think anyone got them this holiday season..

I love my 2014 Moto X, as I did the 2013 version. Those seasonal boot screens - I haven't had one yet on the 2014 although I did get them on the 2013. I still get the Spotlight videos, though.

I have no complaints about the screen or the size, and my battery life is just fine. I routinely get about 4 hours of screen on time and easily make it through the day before charging. I can't say enough about Moto Display, which I can't live without, and which is even more responsive on the 2014 Moto X than the 2013 version.

The camera - I agree with raqball that it's less than perfect. Good low light photos are tricky, although better on Lollipop I hear (I don't know since I'm still on KitKat) and you do have to adjust some settings to increase your chances of getting good photos, but it isn't an impossible task.

The camera is the one thing I personally find lacking in this phone, as it was in the 2013 Moto X. Everything else I love, especially the near pure Android experience. What Moto adds is all good stuff and only enhances the Android experience. If you are thinking about a Nexus 6, that's also a good choice but dang that phone is BIG.

I've had my X since October. I recently bought a N6 and am sending it back due to the size....performance wise the Nexus is a little smoother, but not too much smoother. I think the X is the way to go

I've had a Nexus 5, Samsung S3 (AT&T), iPhone 3G, Lumia 520. I bought a 2013 Moto X, but returned it. I preferred that over the N5, but returned the Moto X (that's another story). So far, I like the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition the best of all the phones I've owned. The battery life is better than the N5, and so far, I haven't had any random battery drains like I experienced on the N5. I like the Active Display, and will try the Active Listening feature more.

I've been reading about some of the other flagship phones, and I really like the LG G3. I think about whether I should have gotten that instead, as I don't mind the LG skin. I like its IR blaster. I have an LG Realm, which has some of the features of the LG G3 skin.

I tried the 2014 Moto X for a day recently. Very nice phone. Great display, IMO and great build quality. Touchless controls were nice. AT&T didn't have many cases for it and I realized I'm not a big fan of stock android (I like things like easily being able to change the font). Overall, though the X is quite nice.

But it allows you to insert an sd card, which is better.
Do the Moto X or Nexus 6 have IR port like the HTC One?

Sorry but the Moto G is not even close to being the same phone as the Moto X or the N6..

I am having second thoughts. From the chopping off of the first part of my ringer tone, that Moto considers a "safety feature" (while laughably Moto Voice raises ringer volume every time it's used), to the fancy new sensors designed to keep the display on when you're looking at it, only it doesn't work, I don't see it being much of an upgrade.

Yes it is bigger than its predecessor, but harder to use one handed, and easier to drop. I go back to using my 2013 X and it feels like it is glued to your hand.

Best non specialized phone of 2014. Hands down. I do not say that lightly. Great performance. Great hardware. Great software/support. Great price. I have had this phone sense launch, and it is the first phone that has not left me longing for something else. All my complaints are nit picks with the exception that some other phones in the same class get better battery life(htc one m8).

There is really nothing inherently wrong with this phone. Some don't like the size, but they are still stuck on the 2013 x(which my wife has) and their only other option is Sony compact. There are better smartphone cameras out there, but all those are still smartphone cameras and only marginally better. If you want great looking pics, get a real camera that is not 100% reliant on post processing and software tricks like a smartphone is.

The only potential downside to the phone is if you are a very heavy user and 6+hours SOT completely away for the charger. You won't get that with the Moto x. I consistently get 4+ hours in my daily use. If I am primarily on wifi and in a good signal area, I can get 5-6.

I think mine is going back.. So much promise with the phone yet to many let downs. The screen is bad and the camera is bad.. 2 weeks and my bamboo back is peeling. No thanks Moto. This was my 1st Moto phone since the Razr flip phones days and I doubt I'll ever buy a Moto again.

Waiting for the Sony announcement on Monday to decide if I will buy the Z3 Compact or wait for a Z4 Compact if one is announced..

re: Moto support, take a look at all the horror stories on G+ and you will see Moto support has went pretty far down hill recently..

I think its a great choice! Now I hear a lot of people not happy about certain things on this device...

1) Camera - Sure its not the greatest but then again its on a phone. When I want picture clear photos I bring our real camera with us. Fixed! But its great for the Facebook or social media IMO.

2) Battery Life - No complaints from me but its all in how you use it.

3) Bad screen - I think the colors pop and the screen is just right! However I would love to be able to change the icon sizes. A launcher could easily fix this issue. Plus with the lack of a 4K screen you don't need a monster of a battery! So again it depends on what your looking for...

Otherwise the phone hits right on with it;s size, fit in the hand, look and so on! Software updates are quick and Moto IMO did a good job with the X. Price is fair as well. If you wanna save some cash just look for one gently used. Plus it fits in my pocket! Another plus to the X. Over all I'm a very happy customer!

Look at your needs and go from there. If you wait it out for the next "big"device then you will always be waiting!

I liked the Moto X but I like the S5 better. Seemed like I get more for my $$$ with the S5, which works beautifully with Nova Prime as its launcher.

This thread is great for me as well since I was also looking to get a Moto X phone. I already have a Moto 360 watch just deciding on the best phone to pair it with.
