moto x notification display keeps constantly blinking...

In my moto x (2014), the active display when the phone is asleep, keeps constantly blinking when I have a lot of notifications.. I know there is a hand gesture feature with which we can bring up the active display. But I don't want it to keep blinking when I don't want it to. Is there a way I can turn off this feature? I'm just concerned about the battery consumption.

No need to worry just keep your screen facing downwards and the screen will stop blinking. And it blinks because you are moving near it. Remember, that the IR sensors on the lower sensors are constantly working

Nope.. I made sure everything was still in the room and kept looking at it.. Even the fan was off
