Moto X Play - overheat issue

I have just purchased moto x play. but this phone has overheating problem even after 10-15 minutes of call. heating is too much that phone can not be kept with ear to attend the call. Motorola must release any update to resolve this problem ASAP otherwise this phone is totally wastage of money.

there is some eco problem with speakers also.

motorola must resolve these issue to make it a successful phone.

A new phone can get a bit warmer sometimes on the first days of use. This is normal, the whole system needs to settle down, lots of background process, your personal info being synced, etc. But it's not normal getting very hot. Can you check the temperature using an app like Gsam?

Also, check your battery stats and see if there's any app showing an unusual high percentage. If you tap on the battery graph you can see the signal bar in different colours. Are you having problems with your cell signal? This could also generate some extra heat.

I have been using x play for 2 weeks and i have not experienced any major heating issue to point of concern.

I noticed overheating on 4g connection only. My WiFi if always on approximately.

So i think smartphone bring such a compact device little bit of overheating is OK.

Mine gets warm sometimes from gaming and other tasks, but all phones get warm!

After almost 2 weeks of use, the phone simply refuses to overheat. No matter how many apps I have opened, it keeps its cool

One exception though. After 10 minutes of having the motorola camera app on, its temperature skyrockets to above 39 C. My explanation is that it continually tries to autofocus, but maybe I am wrong...

Its been only 4 days I bought my Moto X Play. But after using it sometime. It does gets a bit warmer. Please Give me a clue of the happenings. Should I reach Service Centre for this. ??? Please Reply.

It's kind of normal the phone getting a bit warmer the first days. There are a lot of updates, syncs and system processes running in the background. There are other causes that could generate heat, for example a weak cell signal, specially when using mobile data.

Use it for few days and see if the problem still persists....
I don't have any heat issues with my phone at all. Although there is little lag across the OS but it will be fixed with marshmallow update...

When watching Netflix, it gets cooler. Paradox.
Why does Motorola publish such a crap phone? Seems like iphone is the only working phone.

Welcome to the forums. What do you see in your battery stats when this happens? Any particular app using an unusual high percentage? How are your cell signal and connection speed? Did it happen while using mobile data or WiFi?

Next time this happens take a couple of screenshots of the battery stats and post them here. We'll try to figure out where the problem is. Most times overheating is caused by a weak signal, low connection speeds or some conflict with a third party app.

Even i bought new through flipkart offer time. Waste of money. With 15 minutes of Skype it gets too much overheated Nd hangs off. Ridiculous after spending 18000.almost.. it's a lesson not to buy at first release

Unfortunately it seems to be a software issue, I have this happen with anything fairly taxing on the GPU. Games, youtube 1080 or videos push the phone too hard and it heats up. Generally I have to hold the phone over an aircon vent to cool it down and become responsive again.

Custom roms could probably limit that, however, I'm not keen at the moment to wipe and start again.

My phone is always very hot to hold if I leave it in the phone case it gets even harder this has not been just the sudden occurrence it's always been too hot to hold to your ear for a long conversations you have to turn it on the speakerphone.
Has anybody received an appropriate answer from this morning or is it just everybody saying the same thing I'm not getting any answers?

Welcome to Android Central! The previous post in this thread was 12/15/16 -- are you referring to other threads where "everybody is saying the same thing"?

It'd help to see some battery stats. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.

Hey guys.

I don't know if it's the phone, the SIM card, or maybe the network.
For a few weeks I've been experiencing terrible battery drains and overheating in my X Play. I live in Mitcham, London, UK. The 4G coverage was always crap in here. I'm on Vodafone. However, my issue started around the beginning of this year.
When I leave my phone on its stand in my room for the whole day, the battery will go down by 7-8%.
If I put it in my pocket and go to a shop, after coming back after only 40-50 minutes, it heats up and eats 10-12% of power, just lying in the pocket.

Everything's already been checked and tried: cache wipe, network settings reset, even a hard reset has already been done.
When I switch 4G data off, the drain stops.
But in this case, I could as well go back to my ROKR E8... :/

I don't experience overheating in any other cases. Only when the phone is moving with me.
I bought mine just after release, from Moto Maker. Currently the only extra apps installed on the phone are GSam and Viber.

A point of note: with Moto G4 and identical settings, also on the crappy 4G coverage, I'm getting a way better battery life now. I put the blame on January Security Patch here. The only difference is that my Moto G4 already runs Android 7.0. I really do hope that 7.x for the X Play will bring improvements. I don't want to put this phone aside, I like it too much.

These graphs and a chart below show a 40-minute long walk to a shop back and forth.

really frustrating issue.. with a very poor battery backup..\

I haven't found any permanent solution yet, unfortunately.
Tried everything except unlocking and rooting for a custom ROM as the phone is still under warranty.
I decided to wait until May for that promised 7.x update. I read somewhere (don't remember where) that 7.x contains new JiT compiler, new kernel, and new radio software. Maybe these, combined with updated Doze will do the trick. If not, then I'll be filing a claim with Lenovo.

For now, I switched to my backup phone, Moto G4, which (ironically) has a better battery life (with 3000mAh) than the X Play, and is on 7.0 atm.

So, my temporary solution for the problem is to try to stay calm and use a secondary phone for a while. All this makes me want to go back to Droid RAZR Maxx HD (rooted, reverted to 4.1.2).

I think I found the cause of my problem.
Believe me or not, all this chaos with my phone seems to have been caused by my micro SDXC 64GB memory card. I took it out of the phone and left it alone for a day, it lost only 2% and didn't even get warm. I took it with me for a walk or drive several times, no spikes of high temperature noticed.

Generally, an app called DevCheck allowed me to discover that the CPU was getting locked at maximum fequency on all cores, which led me to a conclusion that Google Play Services' Media Finder was the culprit, everything because of the memory card.

I will test it with a smaller SDHC 32GB card formatted as Fat32 to see if this theory was right.
Edit: SDHC card causes the same thing. Back to testing without any card in.
Edit 2: Now I'm pissed off... I ran into same problems while not having a card in. This makes the whole theory irrelevant. I'm out of ideas now, the only one is to finally switch a brand, after 12 years.
