Moto X Pure battery life tanking and hot a week after update to Nougat...

Phone so slow after update that some apps won't launch without seeing system messages about apps not responding... Apps that have always launched quickly before.

Battery has instantly become a fraction of what it was...

Apparently changes have been made in Nougat that prevent apps like Usage Timlines to be able to see activity of other apps?

Phone has become nearly useless...

Welcome to the forums. I moved your thread to the X Pure forum for better visibility.

Try "More Settings" for more information (like which apps are using what part of the 68% that's been used in that screenshot). Or try tapping on the graph. One of those should get you to the screen showing the list of apps, signal, wifi, sleep, etc.

It could just be that your battery is dying. I had to replace my Moto XPE for full-time use because its battery was draining quickly and it was getting hot all the time. This happened before the Nougat update. The Nougat update neither improved nor degraded battery life or temperature.

Honestly... This looks like a classic case where a factory reset is necessary.

First try clearing the cache partition (it is non-destructive to your data and information), and if that fails try a full factory reset.

I had respectable battery life right up until the day I did the nougat update. I kind of expected that for a few days after the update the battery might die quickly because of the phone I don't know optimizing apps or something like that. But to have the battery die within three or 4 hours in the following days makes no sense.

From the screenshot, looks like some app or process has been keeping the CPU awake for 3+ hours. That itself is a battery drain. As mentioned above, try performing a cache partition wipe. That could resolve your issues, worst case... backup and factory reset.

I don't recall how to get to the prompt to wipe the cache partition on this phone.

The idea of a factory reset as a cure-all has never appealed to me. It's always felt to me kind of like a troubleshooting cop-out so-to-speak.

And I don't believe a factory reset is a cure-all, but it is not an uncommon solution for the types of issues you are describing especially after a significant change in the base operating system.

I have been around Android since it's inception, I don't know everything or always have the answer, but the issues you describe often lead to a factory reset as the answer... It's just my experience.

My Moto X battery life deteriorated rapidly over the last few months. I did the cache wipe, I monitored battery usage with gsam. I just didn't try factory reset.

But lots of red flags. My battery charged to full in a short time, indicating a low capacity, and my device would shut off at times when it said I still had 40-50% battery. But no matter how I was or wasn't using it, it couldn't last more than and hour and change off the charger, often not even making it 30 min.

Yeah,,,battery life worse after recent update.
Also get's super glitchy at times.
Like when I'm in text app, typing into screen, and it get's completely stuttering...like it can't digest the fact that I just typed "word".....and then do it again...and then types something else.....zip....until, maybe, all of a sudden it spits everything out. Or not. Or the display goes really easily into this odd "zoom in" mode where you can't do anything anymore and you have to back out completely to the homes screen to get back to normal screen view easily

Plus that awful new splash screen and the ten year old japanese girl with the helo moto...good grief.

I was concerned about the fact that, after the upgrade to Nougat, my 20-month-old MXPE was exhibiting more significant lags than before -- sometimes experiencing delays of as much as 10-12 seconds when opening or changing applications. So I followed conventional advice and wiped the cache partition (first time I've ever done that) in hopes that it would reduce those lags; but there was no perceptible improvement. Then, just to free up a little storage space, I went through my apps and uninstalled four or five older ones that I rarely use anymore. To my surprise and great delight, after powering off and restarting, it appears that this simple process restored the zip to my MXPE -- almost back to the original operating speed.

Regarding battery life, I've noticed some improvement since the upgrade, but would estimate that the duration between recharges has only been extended by about 10-15%. In general, I'd say that my wife and I have been very fortunate with the performance and reliability of our MXPEs.

I installed nougat fully planning on doing a factory reset afterwards.... I like to do one after every system upgrade, but my phone's working so well that I think I'm going to get lazy on this one and skip the reset.

My battery life was already extremely good, and I haven't really noticed any change either way. My phone was bone stock for the upgrade, no apps installed, and I kept the charger plugged in to make sure nougat detected it properly so I wouldn't have any of the charging issues I've read about.

Nougat improved almost every aspect of my phone, including speeding up Moto voice's location detection from taking up to several minutes to detect I'm home when I first turn the phone on, to instantaneous now. Plus it somehow gave me an extra gig of space :-D I'd read about that happening, but it was sure nice to see.

I did a cache wipe to fix a couple of small glitches that happened a couple times, but otherwise Lenovo seems to have done a really nice job with this upgrade ;-)

Letting the play store update most of my apps seems to have gotten me back to where i was.

Now my problem is my screen looks screwed up after following an internet article that enables night viewing mode... There's a color/luminance gradient now... No matter what mode or brightness. And the vivid/normal modes show no perceptible difference anymore. Phone's never been dropped, sat on, squashed, wet, or in extreme humidity or temperatures, etc. It's lived a very sheltered life lol.

Once i noticed my batteries discharge rate increasing i installed a OS mgr app and uninstalled the apps that were drawing the most juice. it did help.
