Per Mark Rose on Google+:

Motorola Assist is on the Google Play Store and rolling out to users over the day. We?re excited to announce a couple of exciting features along with some bug fixes in the update.

- We know how important it is to keep focused on the road - and stay in communication - so we?ve extended our Quick Reply feature so that you can now personalize your very own Quick Reply message.

- We also know how you don?t like to be disturbed in meetings, so we?re similarly extending our Auto Reply feature to meeting mode. When you?re busy, your incoming calls will get an automatic personalized SMS - directly from you.

- Some important bugs which makes Assist even more reliable and useful.

Stay tuned for more exciting releases from Motorola Assist!

Motorola had a better app with Smart Actions. Assist is weak sauce in comparison. Not sure why they bailed on SA.

Never used Smart Actions but agree this is a weak implementation. Does not support third-party calendars so the Meeting feature is useless for me (using TouchDown by company policy). Sleep mode is remarkably none configurable in terms of the type of notifications I'd like to receive.

I don't know, either, but Google is a very data-driven company and they are not afraid to drop a product or service that is not being used. With Motorola now being owned by Google and managed by Google employees, I suspect that Smart Actions just wasn't being used all that much to justify rebuilding from scratch on the new platform. I think the same goes for the Moto-designed car cradles - there weren't enough people using it to justify not farming the solution out to Griffin, who made a pretty mediocre product. Obviously solutions like these weren't enough to prevent the prior management from having to sell off the company.

Just my speculation...
