Motorola Device Manager keeps thinking its updating

I downloaded Motorola Device Manager to a Windows XP OS and am having trouble having my computer appear in My Computer. I tried to use Motorola Device Manager to get the drivers but when I try to open it it says an update is already in progress. But there is no window open or any sign of such an update. I would appreciate any answers I could get.
