Motorola G8 play powers off when i have the volume at max

[Android Central Question]

when i have something playing and i crank the volume to max, the phone completely shuts off and I have to power it on again. This doesn't happen when it's connected to another audio device (e.j.: Bluetooth headphones/speakers)

Have you done any testing/troubleshooting beyond noticing that that it doesn't happen when the phone is connected to an external audio device? For example if nothing is playing and you just turn all of your volumes up, what happens? If you're one click away from from volume, what happens? Anything like that?

They seem to be talking about random power offs and Moto replied with some tips.

Welcome to Android Central! That makes me wonder if the power needed to crank the volume that high is leading to a short. Or, if the battery is pretty old and starting to fail, the sudden increase in power needs might cause the phone to shut off automatically as a means of protection.

B. Diddy you might be on to something there because that is an older model of device and an increase in power consumption can cause devices to power off. When I looked up that thread I noticed the date and thought, man this seems old to still be an issue, but a failing battery would fit the bill.

To be fair, the phone is only about 2.5 years old -- but depending on how aggressively the battery is used, it could still be starting to deteriorate around now. And defects can make themselves known at any time.
