Why am I doing this?
I factory resetted my wife's HTC One M8 after getting her a 3T so that I can start using it. What I forgot was to backup pictures and videos. Struggling for several days and having tried many apps which attempts to find lost media, I could recover some images but no videos.

More Advanced Apps need Rooted device. Reluctant, I tried KingoUI to root the phone, it showed succeeded but RootCheck still says its not yet rooted.
Tried Dr. Android Recovery App which failed to root the phone.

So I decided to take another root of mounting the phone as drive and use softwares like 7Recovery and others which try to recover missing files from drives.

I tried MTPDrive which nicely mounts the phone but recovery softwares doesn't recognizes it as a drive to scan.

SO, How can I mount my phone as a Mass Storage Device so that recovery softwares can access it?

Optionally, has anyone had a luck with rooting HTC One M8? If so, which software did you use?

thanks. The reason I'm going crazy is as I'm king of loosing 3rd year memories of my daughter :(

Welcome to Android Central! The ability to mount as USB Mass Storage is pretty antiquated these days -- it was possible with devices that partitioned internal storage into an app installation area and an "Internal SD" area, but with modern devices, it's not possible, since the storage is unified (hence the need for MTP, Media Transfer Protocol).
