This will probably be one of "stupid question of the day" moments, but I can't find a way to view MPG movie files. YouTube video files work fine, as do video files recorded by the on-device camera. I wouldn't have been surprised if QuickTime, WMV, and RealPlayer movies didn't work without a specific player, but I confess my naivete in thinking an MPG file should play.

I've tested the same video on my Droid 2 Global and the Xoom, with files playing on the D2G that won't play on the Xoom. Is this an Adobe Flash issue?

open Gallery and you should see any movie files that you've loaded on the device there. make sure that Gallery is set to Images and videos.

Extreme difficulties with getting movies to play

Ive been having some major issues with movies and at this point ive spents hours on so ill give you my run down on what ive discovered.

To begin, the stock movie player is buggy! I ended up using rock player for most of my testing because the stock player rarely works thus far.

I tested mp4 and mkv containers. Every video encoded with the H264 codec would not play at all. mp4s encoded with mpeg worked the best but even then, i noticed some slight quality issues on a 1080p movie re-encoded and downsized to 720p. Honestly, it was slight and only noticeable during certain scenes.

The lack of support in 3.0 for mkvs is frustrating but anyone else who is about to go on a trip and was hoping to play movies on the xoom while flying, I recommend using freemake to encode videos as mp4s with mpeg video codecs (sound didnt have any problems with mp4 or aac).

If anyone else has anything else, I would love to hear it!

Google needs to quickly step in and crank up a PC app to handle sync of media with Honeycomb, handling re-formatting and all of that more simply.

OR, improve the native media apps to handle a LOT more formats and codecs.

Rockplayer lite from the market should be able to play pretty much anything you throw at it

There is an app called "Movies" for some reason it is missing from the "Apps" menu. I uncovered it using tubemate, when it asks what app to use to play the downloaded movie, "Movies" is an option. It is the same player that launches when you choose Gallery and the movie file you wish to play.

For movie conversions, I use Handbrake.

Handbrake has been working well for me. The XOOM does not like H264 so I changed that setting in Handbrake. I also coded them at m4v's and the video seems to work fine.

I use Act 1 Video player. It works really well. The movies I loaded are ones I ripped from DVD's with Ifunia for my Ipad. The only ones that won't work are the ones I actually downloaded through Itunes.

I heard people say qqplayer is good but, I tried it and, it keeps crashing.

the most recent update of Catalyst 4+ has a profile for the Xoom, I loaded the profile and ripped a standard DVD of Hero and it plays great with not stutter or issue.

Before usuing it though, I experienced several of the issues listed here and I trialed with QQPlayer and Mplayer before finding a recommendation for Catalyst 4.

Hope this helps...

I use Total Video Converter & it works flawlessly ! & my Xoom plays h.264 with no problem.it's all in how you do it.
