Hi Im new here -- I was wondering where you can get digital movies/app so afterwards you can view w/out WIFI; and I had similar question is 16 GB vs 32 GB if you are going to have several movies stored... would take up alot of space -- How do books fair as far as space accumulation?
Thanks!
Wanted Tablet for my son (3) and I -- mainly apps, alittle music, and some books, and a few movies -- should 16 GB be enough?

You have lots of options, but the easiest might be to buy or rent movies from Google Play. The Play Movies app lets you "pin" The movie, meaning download it to your N7 for offline viewing. You then have to use that same app to view the movie, as other video players won't work.

Movies will eat up memory like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet.....

Size of movie/TV/Video depends on their quality. A program like Freemake (for your PC) will let you convert and adjust the quality as much as you like, in the form of frames per second and kps (kilobytes per second). A long with what type of file it is (mp4, flv, etc..) ...

A decent quality 90 to 120 minute movie in mp4 or flv format will be anywhere from 250 to 700 meg, (more or less) and can be a lot bigger......

Movies converted to a format that is quite acceptable on the Nexus7 typically take up less than a gig of storage. After watching, Delete... no storage problemo!
Books are no problem whatsoever.

you can always play movies from a memory stick using Nexus Media Importer (unrooted - read only) or stickmount (rooted - full access) that effectively gives you quite inexpensive unlimited storage.

Here is a little table to give you an idea of rough relative storage size
type ----- ave size per ---- # per GB
books ---- 1MB ------------ 1,000
music ---- 3 MB ------------ 333
movies -- 700 MB --------- 1.4

ALL of the average size per file are dependent on how high the quality of the media is. FLAC music files are roughly 10 times larger than mp3 for instance, and an uncompressed blueray movie can be 5 GB or more.

Download Movies to nexus 7...

is there anyway, to download movies straight to the nexus 7 without having to go through the play store? so i can watch whem without having a wifi connection?
OR
is there a actual good converter out there that will actually work in downloading what seems to be the .flv file which is the only one i can seem to get to play...thought i had it figured out last night, but failed!!
easier the solution the better!!

I have installed a film on my N7 (for when I,m on a flight etc.)..I put a DVD into my laptops DVD drive and copied it onto the HDD. I then connected the laptop to the N7 with a USB cable and copied the film to the N7.

Re: Download Movies to nexus 7...

Does that work Ronald with a commercial DVD? I thought the DRM prevented that.

chewbacole, I use DVDFab to rip my DVD's to .mp4 on my PC. They then copy over and play fine in MX Player on my N7.

Re: Download Movies to nexus 7...

Freemake makes a video downloader and a video converter. It's easy to download YouTube videos with them.

Hello "Mickey1",
The DVD I was using was one I had recorded a few years ago on my DVD recorder. It had no protection on it. However; to get a conversion to MP4 I had to use a program called "Handbrake". I think you need a more elaborate convertor to deal with DVDs with Copy Protection on them.

Re: Download Movies to nexus 7...

You CAN download movies offline from the play store. click the pushpin like on the magazine and book apps.

Re: Download Movies to nexus 7...

Good Evening "Micky1",
The DVD I copied was one I had recorded from the TV onto a DVD recorder. Thus there was no protection on it. However; I did have to use "Handbrake" to convert to MP4.
