So I wake up this past Sunday morning to find my DNA in freak-out mode. Specifically, it could not keep an app running. Every single app that was trying to run in the background was crashing instantly. Every one I would try to run myself in the foreground did the same thing. I could do nothing to interact with the phone except for continually tapping "Ok" every time I was told that "Unfortunately, xxxx has stopped functioning".

I googled to see if I could start the phone up in "safe mode" - something I had no idea even existed on an Android phone - and found out I could. I then connected the phone to the computer and tried to move some larger files from phone to computer, thinking that my problem was a space issue - that the apps suddenly had no ROOM to run. But after moving some larger videos of my kid I still could not get the DNA into a normal mode and not have every single app instantly crash. I reached the end of my patience with his God-forsaken phone.

So I borrowed an upgrade date - about 3 weeks early - from another phone on my account and got out of DOA - I mean DNA land. I was a little bummed that I couldn't examine the Droid Turbo and the Nexus 6 side by side for a while before making my decision, but the plan now is that if I decide I like the Nexus better when it comes out then the Turbo goes instead to another family member and I'll get the Nexus.

I loved my Droid Eris, and my Thunderbolt after that - and finally the DNA. But after what HTC put users of each phone through with their "updates", I will never ever buy an HTC phone again.

Many, many thanks to the users here whose advice I enjoyed and who's excitement I shared on this forum. If you should happen to get a Turbo, or find yourself over on the Droid Turbo forum for some other reason, I'll see you all there.

Adios my friends!

PS ... I've got my free space on the DNA up to about 6GB and this thing STILL will not run right. I wonder what happened ...

I was in a similar boat. I had the crashing issue last week and it turned out to be an issue with an update to Google Now/Search. Seems from what I was able to find on the internet that it was very random in that it only affected some Droid DNAs. Since the another update and a reboot, no more issues.

That being said I still ready for a new phone. I'm pretty much tethered to a charger these days. My DNA is lucky to get 8 of standby time and is struggling to get 2 hours of actual use. The Droid Turbo is currently my front runner with the Note 4 being second. Since my wife and I are able to upgrade on the same day from our DNAs (2 weeks from now) and I think we're going to split the efforts in deciding. I'm going to get the Turbo, my wife will get the Note 4 and use each for a week or two. If we find that we like one over the other we have the option to switch phones or return the phone we didn't like and get the other if we both liked the same phone.

Great to have those options open to you! Kinda what I'm doing here with the Turbo .. if the Nexus comes and blows me away my wife enters the smartphone world with a new Turbo. ;-)

I wish I could have gotten the Play Store to work such that I could get an update to Google Now. But there were just so many other strange things going on with the DNA in its last days that I've yet to mention. Take, for example, the fact that as I was taking pictures of my daughter on Halloween night, the phone just shut down. I would reboot and take more and the phone would shut down again. Finally, one time that I turned it back on, it went immediately into setup mode - like it had been just wiped clean and was being set back up from scratch. I panicked, thinking about all I'd lose that hadn't been backed up, and hit the home key and got out of the setup. While my photos and files were all intact (there never was a complete wipe), all my my homescreen widgets and icons were gone back to the default out-of-the-box setup. Bizarre - I can't imagine a circumstance were that should happen.

I would think you soul of have used the DNA to get $100 (or more for the DNA) off on the Turbo

Sent using my Verizon Turbo charged 64GB Ballistic Nylon phone unfortunately with a case on back

That was my hope too... But I needed time to try an extract everything on it. I've since done that and done a factory reset, but apparently I missed the boat.

In a similar boat (had the T-Bolt before as well). My DNA is randomly powering off, doesn't hold a charge for more than 3 hours, and has stopped being able to send texts (it can receive), My upgrade comes in a week and a half, but I am probably going to go stock on a Nexus 6 and just get the SIM from Verizon. Loved the DNA for the first 18 months...

Moving to a G3 in a few weeks. Loved my DNA but it just went to ****. Massive lag. Texts not sending. Ready to try something new. Away from HTC.

Knock on wood, my DNA is running as well as when I bought it 19 months ago. No problems with battery, apps crashing etc.

You do know that I likely just jinxed myself lol

I wish you all the success in the world with it. Truly. But... at 19 months, mine was running fine too. ;-)

I had this problem as well as far as the phone just shutting off on its own for a solid 3 months. Sometimes 2-3 times a day. Thankfully , I just happened to be poking around in preferred network setting and noticed my phone was set at Global. I changed it back to LTE/CDMA not knowing that had anything to do with it, but guess what. 2 months later my phone has not shut down on its own and works like it was brand new.
Since this may not be what others are seeing, I would be curious for those that have the same issue, if they switched to Global and back to LTE if this helped with the phones just randomly powering off.

Thanks for that info. I am currently on "Global" without any problems but if there are random shutdowns in the future, will be sure to switch over to LTE/CDMA.

I did the same thing. Battery life went through the roof, no more random shut downs either. Was ready to upgrade early until I changed that setting, no its like a new phone.

The DNA was a great phone for me, but hard to pass up the timing of 1. My contract being up, 2. $99.00 price tag, and 3. $100.00 trade in allowance for my old DNA. The speed is awesome, the battery is unbelievable and that little Turbo charger that came in the box will give me 8 hours on 20 minutes of charge time. I never liked the Moto phones, but this is not your ordinary Motorola device. It was designed & manufactured under the Google title when they owned Moto for that short time. I'm considering it a Google phone and have had no gripes whatsoever since. I wish it was offered to more than Verizon users so you all could enjoy this gem of a device. ~Cheers!

I ordered a LG G3 yesterday for "free" ($40 upgrade fee) from VZW
My DNA is still working fine but the nicer camera etc. sent me over the edge.
Edit midnight 2/19
FedEx ain't what it used to be
still waiting
It showed up today and so far I'm loving it. It'll be great to have my DNA for a backup/wifi device since my N7 got bricked.
