A friend of mine has offered to sell me her (unlocked) AT&T S3. I'd plan on using it on T-Mobile. Two questions:

1. Will I have to root and run a ROM, or will the stock AT&T software/touchwiz work as-is?

2. Can the AT&T phone work on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 MB network, or will I be relegated to 3G due to frequency band differences?

Appreciate any advice.

1) You will need to unlock the phone. Many web sites offer this service for a small fee. ($20 is a good est.)

2) No HSPA+ for you. You will only get 2G edge that I am aware of.

I'd sell your S3 to someone on Ebay or something then buy the Tmo version. That's what I would do! Or look into another prepay service like Strait Talk where you can buy an ATT SIM card and continue to use their HSPA+ if service in your area is good.

Hope this helps!

You don't want T Mobile! Their coverage is horrible...worst among all minor carriers
