Moving files from a USB thumb drive to an internal SD card on a Tab A 8.0

As I forewarned in a previous post I'm a first time tablet owner (Galaxy Tab A 8.0") so I will have many questions! :)

I'm slowly but surely figuring out the tablet's configurations and usage. Not having any Android prior knowledge (I don't have a smartphone either! I'm an old geezer!) it's a bit of a learning curve but so far I haven't screwed up the tablet!

I have purchased a OTG connector device and placed some files on a USB thumb drive to test it. It was recognized by the tablet and I was able to see the contents using My Files (it also shows up in Settings>Storage. What I can't figure out is how to move the files from the OTG drive to the internal SD card on the tablet. I've researched how to do this pretty extensively but most of the information shows how to do it on a smartphone. I haven't seen anything on a method for Android tablets.

Of course I tried the most obvious, at least to me as a Windows OS user, of trying to drag and drop the the files/folders from the USB thumb drive to the internal SD card in My Files but that didn't work. I wasn't able to grab the folders on the USB drive. I'm hoping someone can post a procedure on how to do this or provide a link that explains it specifically for Galaxy tablet users.

Android OS has been automatically updated to Marshmallow 6.01.

As always TIA for any replies or suggestions.

Updating my OP.

Well, as usual, if I poke around enough in an OS I usually figure things out. :)

I didn't realize that when I was looking at files on the USB thumb drive in My Files, if I didn't see check boxes next to the file name that I could press and hold the file names and the check boxes would appear. Once I placed check marks in the boxes the More menu would offer choices including Move and Copy. Choosing Move then would allow me select where on the internal SD card I wanted them and also offer the choice of creating a folder there. The next step was a bit confusing at first because I kept waiting for an OK option or button to complete the process. You have to select the Done button on the top and boom...transfer completed. Very fast by the way.

Hope this might help any other Android newbies like myself to move files, docs, pictures, music, etc. from an OTG compatible device to their Android tablet. I did not try the reverse which would have been moving files from my tablet to the OTG thumb drive but I assume it would work the same way. The key is making sure the check box option is visible for any file you want to move or copy.
