Moving from a iPhone 3GS to Samsung S7 or S7 Edge

Hello experts,

At the beginning of 2009 the most advanced smartphone going for me was a iPhone 3GS (functionality, hardware perspective and App availability). Fast forward to present 2016, and I'm going to upgrade finally to a Samsung S7 or S7 edge. Holding both flagship units single with one hand the S7 feels great, the S7 Edge not bad either (however slightly less comfortable), however both are new since both are bigger than the iPhone 3GS.

Is the S7 Edge an acquired feel after a while? The S7 feels a bit more natural when holding it off the bat. I don't mind the price buying the device outright, I just want to make sure the phone lasts (durability where I don't have to baby it as I've read some people complaining about how easy the screen scratches), is functional and will hold up as long as my iPhone 3GS did in the years to come (looking for longevity and some future proof if that even really exists now days). As you might tell, I don't care for brand, and whatever mobile phone device is best at the time I'll upgrade too as I make the move.

Thanks for your thoughts, all are welcomed.

I've had one S7 Edge for a month now and a second one for about three weeks. Both are in Spigen cases because I can't stand the back of the phone after using it awhile because of all the greasy fingerprints. The cases also give it a better grip so I don't feel like I'm going to drop the phone.

I have only have one phone scratch out of 10-12 phones I have ever owned and I'm not worried about the S7 Edge scratching.

I too had and still have a 3GS but I don't use it. Once in awhile I charge it up and turn it on but that phone is so slow at doing things now. Opening one app can take 30 seconds plus just to load before you can do anything.

You have seriously not used another phone since that 3GS? You've been missing a lot.

Well whichever you choose it will feel amazing I'm sure. Like already said you have missed a bunch and either device will be amazing. For me the s7 edge wins hands down. It looks beautiful. It's fast. Battery life is amazing. And the added edge features are cool.

Hello NexusGirlX,

Great to hear from you and congratulations with your new mobile tech arsenal. I’ve heard a lot about Spigen brand cases and have researched the models I will be wrapping my S7 or S7 Edge (Crystal clear variant – not quite sure which one exactly yet). I likely will purchase a second Spigen case (the Armor version) that has the little kick stand at the back if I catch myself positioning the phone upwards often.

I’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying your new S7 Edge and I’m really looking forward to getting a fresh mobile upgrade. Thanks for your input and observed experiences with the older antiquated iPhone 3GS I’m using, all very accurate examples.

To answer your question, I haven’t used a newer phone particularly because just haven’t found a clear need to upgrade until Apps, functions and use become unavailable or have simply stop working. Most of this thinking is drawn from service provider’s focus to charge more for their cell/data plans, and producers of devices charging increasingly exorbitant prices for their devices. Both are major turn offs, though are facts of the industry.

I came from iPhone 6 and don't regret the switch. Camera alone makes it worth. If you want maximum durability you should consider phone which has aluminum frame and back.
