Hi,

I have created a few mp4 files at 1280 * 800 for my Nexus (2012), but whatever video player I use (inbuilt, mx and vlc) I get the video letterboxed. I thought that if they were created at the native resolution of the Nexus they would play full screen - is that not the case?

Cheers

Welcome to Android Central! Using MX Player, tap the screen when the video is playing, and then tap the icon to the right of the skip forward button. That should toggle between the various display modes (Stretch, Crop, 100%, Fit to Screen).

Hi B. Diddy, thanks for responding!
I tried all the display modes and also the ones in VLC and nothing got rid of the borders. I need to check the source content as this doesn't make sense at all! I am fairly sure the native video player should full size the picture as long as it is 1280*800 and MX Player and VLC should also be able to handle it with their display modes, so fingers are now pointing at the videos themselves. I will convert a few more tomorrow and test.
Cheers

Pretty sure the n7 has a 16:10 display which means if you are viewing 16:9 content, you will get some narrow bands at top/bottom.

Right, but widescreen movies are typically 16:9. So widescreen movies are going to be narrower horizontally than a 16:10 screen.

you got it spot on! i checked the content and it's definitely 16:9, so obvious in hindsight sorry :)

just need to find some 16:10 content now to test (or resize some 16:9), but i am good for now - thanks for all your help guys!

cheers
