My backup cell phone is dead. I am thinking of changing networks, from at+t to tmobile. One advantage they have is I can get a data only plan ($30 per month) for my cell while most companies try to force you to buy fone and data plans. I will use VOIP to send/receive calls. I can get unlimited calls for $10 using VOIP.

My questions are:
1. How good has VOIP tech improved over cell fones? I have done some limited testing with my ipod touch and was able to send/receive calls with no problem

2. How good is the mytouch 4g? From what I have read online, it has gotten stellar reviews. It supports Flash and netflix app will be coming soon to android. How good is the speaker fone and videoconferencing with skype?

3. How good is the tmobile data service in chicago? Any major market where the service is bad?

4. How good is tmobile's 4g? I think at CES they announced they will be boosting its speed.

5. Is there a download limit to their unlimited data plan? How much data does a VOIP call make?

6. I could get a 5 inch android 4g tablet and use it as a fone via VOIP. Any rumored coming to tmobile soon?

Please reply ASAP as I plan to make the purchase soon. Thx

1. This I'm really not sure about hopefully someone can chime in for ya.

2. The myTouch 4G is an awesome phone. It's blazing fast and is just fun to use. It doesn't give you a headache trying to figure anything out. It's my very first Android phone and I find it very intuitive. The speakerphone is weak. Sounds very distorted but you can definitely make out whats being said on it. At the highest volume it becomes somewhat difficult to bear.

3. I'm in Northwest, Indiana and when I've been to Chicago I've gotten 5 bars of service everywhere. Chicago is also fully covered by their 4G service now so thats another major plus. If you live in the city I don't think you'll be disappointed. Of course, I'd check the T-Mobile coverage maps where you live and work just to play it safe.

4. AWESOME!!! Highest I've gotten was 7mb download and I believe 2mb up. Keep in my mind I'm so use to EDGE data speeds coming from a Blackberry Curve 8900. EDGE got the job done for me lol so 4G just blew me away.

5. T-Mobile offers you unlimited data and they mean it however once you hit 5GB of data you will be throttled down until your next billing cycle. They don't charge you extra or anything its just to conserve bandwidth which I understand. I'm sorry but define VOIP?

6. See above lol.

I answered these questions to the best of my knowledge for ya and I highly recommend the myTouch and T-Mobile. I've been with them for 5 years now and I find their service to be excellent. Of course in some places coverage could be better but you have to consider your getting a lot more than Verizon or AT&T. I just renewed my contract for the mytouch and have an awesome plan. It's a promotional plan right now with 1500 mins and unlimited everything else all for $79.99/mo. Tell me how much that would cost on Verizon or AT&T? Anyway, best of luck to you, keep us posted on your outcome. :)

I agree with what he said. I will say that VOIP would depend heavily on your wifi signal strength and connection speed. I've used wifi calling (which isn't the same but is pretty close) with a very good signal and speed and it works flawlessly. I've also used it on a weaker signal and it goes in and out when I walk around. So YMMV

Here's what I was responding to:
