multi window option greyed out

Bought a Note 8 and had Multi window Capability. Then my Note performed a software update on the OS. But it actually downloaded an older android Version 4.1. I. Then I noticed I no longer had Multi window Capability. When I realized I had an outdated OS version I updated to 4. 4. 2. However Multi window is still greyed out in settings. When I go to the pull down menu it is a light green.

I had a problem on my notes when updated. I did a soft reset and it took care of it.

On my phone I can go into settings and enable or disable multi window. I have found that sometimes it disappears for a reason I do not know and I'm just go back and re enable it and its back.

The reason is you activate the side bar for multi window by holding the BACK arrow next to your home button on the phone. Makes it appear and dissapear

That does not work for me. No matter how long I hold the back button, nothing happens.

This is fixed by a factory reset, I've had it happen before myself.
