Multimedia volume through bluetooth

Going from my note 2 to the note 3 I notice that the volume through bluetooth headphones is considerably lower at full volume than on my note 2. Is there a setting I am missing or is this the way it is?

Have you turned up the volume on both the Note 3 and the headset?

I found my mistake...I initially turned up the volume on the headset before I started playing music... was able to go louder after turning up the volume while music was playing

do notification sounds still come through phone even though bluetooth headset is being used like it does on note 2?
