Multiple instances of one app in recent apps

I'm getting multiple instances of the stock messaging app showing up in the recent apps menu. Doesn't seem to be happening with other apps that I've seen.

Anyone know what's up with this?

Cleared cache, data, and rebooted...no fix.

I don't use the stock anymore, but I think there is a setting for a new window for each conversation. This would make for multiple windows in recent app list.

Mmm no such setting seen but I didn't change anything.

I had been using Textra for quite some time and then uninstalled it and switched back to stock texting app. Haalllp!!!

Update:

I was rooted and KDZ'd back to stock and it's still doing it....no one has anything on this? No luck over on XDA yet either.

Haven't seen that, sorry. The only thing I can think to check (grasping at straws) would be to set Chrome to not show tabs individually in the recent apps list. And see if perhaps that changes anything.

Not much of a guess, but it's easy to try, at least.

This is the stock messaging app showing multiple times in recents, not Chrome.

I know. But Chrome is supposed to be able to do that. Perhaps the behavior is related somehow. They should not be, of course. But at the same time, it shouldn't be doing what you're seeing. So the "impossible" might become a little more worth considering.

Well fwiw I'm using Chrome Beta, but tried switching the "merge tabs and apps" (I think that's the setting you are referencing?) off and on both with no luck stopping the messaging app coming up multiple times in recents menu...

If it's any help, in application manager - running - under messaging there is a service called Switched Service that runs persistently.
