Multiple notifications in status bar for same app

some of my apps such as fitbit and even google's own weather notification send me multiple notifications during the day, which is fine, but the problem is that every time i get a notification it adds the same app's logo in the status bar.

so instead of just having 1 fitbit logo in the status bar and then me swiping down to look at notifications where i would see that there are 3 of them there, i instead see 3 fitbit logos in the task bar, which is annoying and stupid as hell.

is there a setting where i can "collapse" these somehow, or is this clutter part of android?

Notifications can usually be controlled by the app itself. If Google is sending a notification and the app is also sending a notification, you could get two notifications. Take a look at the app and see if one of the settings is to send notifications to Google and if so, turn it off. Does that solve the problem?

i mean to say i see multiple occurences of this, not that google is repeating what another app is sending.

Example 1: Fitbit sends notificaiton that i'm XXX steps away from my goal, then it sends a notification that i've reached my goal and then it sends a notification that it's time for bed -- in my status bar i get 3 fitbit app logos.

example 2: (another question for another time) i have 3 separate reminders to OK google to send me weather updates, one at 6am, one at 6:30am and one at 7AM, in the task bar i see 3 little cloud logos.

I see. So you would like to see all three weather notifications under one little Cloud icon. Okay. Well, it doesn't work that way. You're going to get three little Cloud icons. One for each notification. :)
