hello im new to this android os. i came from webos. can anyone direct me to link or explain multitasking on the evo? my pre was pretty easy for this i am not sure how it works in android. thank you

Hi robmiller, You just use an app and then go to another, when you go back to the first one it's right where you left off.

You should try some searches here on the forum or on Google to get familiar with the Android OS, using the home button and customizing the home screens can make the Evo useful and easy to navigate between apps.

ok thanks. just could not understand how it work never really seen if you actually closed app or if it stayed running.

Long press the home button. A list of the last 6 apps you've used will pull up and when you select an app it will open in the place you left off.

some apps close on exit, others remain open & you are welcome to use task killers to keep your device free of memory & to save battery life.

To clarify: All apps should remain open as long as you don't back out(hit the back button until the app closes) or exit (press the menu button and select exit but not all apps have this).

If you are in an app and just hit the home button it will remain open, hence will open in the same spot when you long press home. hope that helps

indeed, good points

so, just for fun, i downloaded Advanced app killer and turn it on for the first time. There were many, many apps running that I "closed" (pressed home button) out of.

Are these apps still running in the background and eating away battery? Or do they go into some sort of sleep mode?

Thanks in advance.

Read the following quote again, hitting the home button doesn't shut down the app. Only pressing the back button until it exits will shut it down.

Backing all the way out of internet, doesn't seem to shut it down. At least, according to task killer....

The things that bug me with the way android handles multitasking is when you hold down the home button it doesn't necessary give you a list of open apps, it actually gives you a list of recent apps. I would rather see a list of only the apps that I actually have opened... and give me a way of exiting them safely from here. Also some apps have (or appear to have) no way of exit/closing (in a safe way) them completely when you are done with them.

I don't want to use a task kill because I don't think they are good for the OS or the apps. Just like in windows, when you ctrl-alt-del and end a task, it is not very good for the app or windows to force the app to close like this... you run the risk of corruption. And many people say that these app killers actually make their phone more unstable and perform worse over time.

Although I have to say that none of these things are going to deter me from using this phone and Android, I personally like android better than anything out there right now... and it will only get better with time.
