Multitouch. Mostly. :-(

Took a trip to a corporate Sprint store today to do a comparison of multitouch capability amongst a few different Android devices. I loaded the Epic, Evo, and Optimus with Multitouch Test by greenrobot. The Epic was running Android 2.1 though I did not bother to note the exact maintenance numbers. It registered a maximum of 5 different touch points very accurately. I was able to cross all 5 touch point's axes multiple times with no impact on accuracy as well as perform complex gestures with ease. My fingers were able to come very close in pinch/zoom style gestures with sporadic inaccuracies appearing only when my fingers where touching. This display Evo was running 2.2. Evo sadly registered only 2 points of touch. The screen measured touch accurately but was not quite as responsive as the Epic's.

The Optimus was a mixed bag. Touch was responsive and registered two points at most. A single touch measured accurately on any given point of the screen. Multitouch gestures where inhibited due to the fact that neither axis of either touch point could cross and maintain tracking. When attempting to cross two intersecting axes the touch points either begin moving in the opposite direction of touch or totally loose any sense of accuracy at all. When moving both fingers towards each other in a pinch operation once my fingers came to close to one another one of the touch points would disapear. If I moved my fingers apart again without lifting them only one point of touch registers or two points register moving in a totally opposite direction.

Having come from the Samsung Moment any functional multitouch is a nice touch but, it would be nicer if the accuracy issues could be addressed in a software update. I know this device is not of the same class of phone as the Evo or Epic but if LG is going to implement a feature it'd be nice if they could do so a little more gracefully. I did not have time to test the Transform or Intercept. I will be going back to see how the Transform handles multitouch soon as this is the only other Sprint multitouch device that is running a stock Android implementation, other then the ID stuff.

The digitizer in the Optimus is supposed to be fully multitouch capable. I'm wondering if responsibility for these odd multitouch behaviors lay on Android's shoulders, something software specific or worst of all with hardware. My future Transform test might shed some light on the situation...

Ya I tried that same test with the multi touch app you said and had the same results only did the red and blue finger test had the same pinch probblem and it deff cant handle anymore fingers but when crossing lines it was iffey again like said results may very lol
