Music and video folder not showing downloaded content

I have downloaded music and videos from a external hard drive to the downloads folder (my only option), but the default music and video folders do not show any content. This is why i cannot sync my music with google music. HELP!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Use any file manager app to move those files from the /Download directory into either the /Music directory or the /Movies directory. Also, make sure there isn't a file called ".nomedia" in the /Download directory -- this would instruct the system to ignore that directory when scanning for media files to add to the respective databases.
