Music Controls in Notification shade

I remember on my S8+ when listening to music through Google music the controls for music like play/pause, forward and back would be in the notication shade when you're using your phone and swipe down. On my note 8 I can't be play a game and quickly swipe down and change a song. Is there a setting to turn this on?

Is that only when you're playing a game, or any time? E.g., if you're on the homescreen while Google Play Music is playing, do you see the controls in the notification panel? If not, then go to the App Manager, select Google Play Music, and check the Notifications. Tap the Playback part, and make sure it's turned on.

I did that
But after I leave settings the playback controls aren't switched on
If I go back to check the settings, it says they are off despite me switching them on
