Music quality drops down when screen turns off.

Hi guys.
I was forced to buy a cheap smartphone while on vacation.
Unfortunately, I'm currently in Egypt so my choices were very limited.
I decided to go with Honor 4X (Che2-L11...C185B056)

I'm quite happy with the phone. It was super cheap and performance and the display are decent.

However, I'm stuck with idiotic problem.
When I listen to music (Huawei Music app and Google Play Music tested) and lock the screen drastically the quality of sound drops down. It sounds like a completely different file with much lower bitrate.

The phone runs Android 4.4.2 (the lollipop update is apparently unavailable for my build)

Anyone?

Nope. That crossed my mind too.
The phone is in "full power" mode.
