music volume increases on it's own

What could be causing my music volume or media volume to shoot all the way up to full on it's own. I could even have my volume on mute and it all of a sudden it'll shoot all the way up to the fullest level.

Welcome to Android Central! The Volume Up button's switch might be stuck. Bring it to a repair shop to see if they can fix it.

thanks for the response but this cannot be the solution because the volume switch work just fine and responds correctly for phone volume and music. its the music volume that increases without touching the buttons

It's still possible that the Vol Up button is faulty such that it's intermittently doing this. But see if it happens in Safe Mode, which can help determine if some 3rd party app might be causing it as a software issue.

My phone does something like this. Every few weeks it seems I'll be watching a video & I'll press up on the volume button & it will shoot up to max & when I press down it will shoot down to low for me to hear the video. The only thing that sorts this out is turning the phone off then back on again.
