Music.....where does it go.....

I am on my 6th day with Android and this was one of the biggest puzzles to me.

It transpires that Google Music tracks are stored in the cache, without descriptive filenames, and these tracks are not available outside of the Google Music app.

More worryingly: if you have sideloaded music (indicated by a grey pin) then click the pin to 'keep the track' (blue pin) you will end up with 2 copies of the track. You should then delete the sideloaded tracks to free up space.

I think this is by design... if you want your Google Music offline you can pin it. This lets you listen to it wherever you are. If you want the music actually locally, download it from Google music to your computer and move it to your One.

I've been doing this fine. I have a small library of local actually on the phone music, and the rest is through Google Music. I pin the albums and playlists I really don't think I could deal with not having access to.

I have a ton of music in playmusic app....when i download or pin it to my HTC ONE...where does it go....the music app shoes nothing....i want to make a few ringtones and cant find the music anywhere...not in the dowloads app....even with a file manager it isnt in any files....Please Help....

I left Apple Ipohne 3gs, 4, 4s, and recently left the iPhone5 for the Android......love the phone so far but this is bugging me.....

Thx
I may be wrong but I think it just caches the file into local memory. You would need to copy the file into your music folder via your computer to gain access to the actual file.

Correct. All music pinned to device is encrypted & compressed to save space. Only Google Play Music can read the file format. Much better way to combat piracy.

Regarding ESS File Explorer, one does not need root to use it. However, it will not read the encrypted files. The folder will appear empty. This has nothing to do with having root access.

I agree, it's horrible with the newer phones. On my old Galaxy s4 I could find the music I transferred at my fingertips. Now on my Moto xPlay can't find them anywhere! I just use my good old iPod Classic for my walks so I don't have to turn on data just to listen to music.
