must I use a usb c cable to connect to the car to view android auto?

2016 Chevrolet Corvette with Android Auto software upgrade done last week. Phone is paired via Bluetooth. The dealer is saying I must use a usb "c" cable to get Android Auto to work, is this correct?

You need a USB cable, but whichever version is compatible with your phone. If your phone uses USB C (Nexus 5X/6P, OnePlus 2, LG G5, etc.) then yes. If you have a regular microUSB phone, then you need that type of cable. But yes, currently cables are needed.
