My 5x basically arrived bricked

I took it out of the box, tried to turn it on, and it went straight to the bootloader. If I try to select start or go into recovery mode, the phone freezes. If i restart the bootloader it just goes right back to this screen every time. Google is shipping a replacement, but I won't have it until next week. Bummer.

At least they're sending a replacement relatively quickly

Can you flash it in that state? I thought they posted files. Might not be able to OEM unlock though with the enable inside the developer options though.

if its possible to root it in that state, then might as well sell it and make some money back. unless google is making you send that one back.

they are putting a hold for the full price of the phone on my account until they get this one back. IT probably could be rooted, but I don't want to void any warranties.

You can probably fix that to save time..

unlock it from there with:
fastboot oem unlock

Then flash the factory image from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=en

and finally fastboot oem lock.. to put it back to normal.

Wont void warranty.
