My apps won't update

I have a rooted Optimus running Lego ROM with the latest VD firmware and I am having problems updating my apps from the market.

I have read elsewhere online to try wiping the dalvik cache, but I tried that but I still can't get them to update.

The two apps in particular that have updates available are Go SMS and EZPDF reader.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

Thanks!

Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All (tab) > Scroll down to market > force stop, clear cache, clear data.

Now launch the market, accept the user agreement, try updating apps.

And if that doesn't work, aTrackDog from the market will sync things back up and get them updating via the market again, even the free ones.

Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions and now the apps show up under the "my apps" portion of the market, but it shows them as not installed (even though they are installed).

I try installing them but nothing happens. It just runs like it is going to install, then stops without any warning or notification.

I was supposed to follow your instructions for the market app right. I also noticed another app called "market updater."

They aren't installed because when the new app installs it needs to remove the old app otherwise you'd have a bunch of old files sitting around every time you updated. It was probably part way into that process when it failed the first time. Tapatalk did the same thing to me a few days ago while updating so what i did was manually uninstall that app (through manage apps) then cleared the market like i told you before then it installed.

See if above (remove app then wipe) helps.

Don't touch that. Only what i said before.

I tried atrackdog and when I select to update the app in the market, the same thing happens. Is that how I am supposed to update? Thanks.

As an FYI, I've had this happen several times when there was no room in /cache for market to download the app after dalvik-cache was moved to /cache. I went to recovery, wiped dalvik + cache, rebooted, and that didn't free up much (if any space). I had to uninstall several little-used apps to free up some space; after that, market update worked fine.

If you want some help in figuring out what to uninstall, use Root Explorer or something similar to check the contents of dalvik-cache. There were some apps that surprisingly took up a lot of space in dalvik-cache.

I haven't resolved the problem yet (because of lack of time), but it looks like the best option may be to just uninstall these apps and reinstall.

The frustrating thing is not knowing what caused this to happen (so that I can avoid it in the future).

@WetWilly, are you suggesting that I uninstall apps that I have installed from the market??? I feel like I have plenty of room for apps on my phone (around 70 mb).

EDIT: Could this in any way be the result of running the cache cleaner "cachemate?" I didn't have any problems before running this, but it is possibly just coincidence.

I just uninstalled the app, followed the instructions above and cleared the cache and data of the market app, then tried to reinstall the app. The app will not install.

Any other ideas?

If you are rooted try deleting the file /sdcard/.android_secure/smdl2tmp1.asec. I was having this same problem but this file was not there so not the problem. There was another file I had to delete and I think it was on the phone. I think the reference was on xda-developers but I cannot remember what the file name was nor can I find the original source. A memory is a terrible thing to ... What was I saying? Sorry I cannot remember the specifics but deleting the file did solve the problem. Perhaps some other members can supply the id.

Thanks! I will keep looking.
