My battery wouldn't charge!

I am visiting my parents on Cape Cod this weekend, and suddenly my SG3 wouldn't charge!
I left it in the charger for an hour. No movement upward. I tried a different charger, turned it off and left it charging - no difference. Mind you, the phone said it was charging. It just didn't. I went to the local AT&T store, and the guy there gave me a new battery. I went home, and, to my horror, it still wouldn't charge. As a matter of fact, while plugged in to the wall charger, the number went down. Back to the store. Two other people in the store gave me a lecture about all my running apps and told me I had to keep on top of that and close apps, which is the opposite of what I had come to know about Android in 3.2 and higher. Moreover, I did not believe running apps could keep my battery from charging. And remember, I had also tried to charge it with the device powered off. Eventually, they gave me a whole new phone, which does charge.

Was I wrong? Should I be worried about running apps? Do they hinder my trying to charge my battery?

I doubt that you had that many apps to cause that... plus after the new batter didn't work they should have just replaced it on the spot IMO that's redicoulous that they lectured you

I hate to ask the obvious but....is the outlet functional? Depending upon where the outlets in our home as in the kitchen or the bath, if water splashes into the outlet, the breaker will be tripped cutting off power to the outlet. It is odd that, as long as you have had your GS3, that this issue would suddenly arise.

Yes, the outlet was functional.I used the same one to charge the battery on the new phone. Remember, I said that the phone was saying the battery was charging, even though it wasn't. But, thanks for coming up with another way of implying that I was the stupid idiot that was to blame for the situation.

What apps did you add before you noticed this behavior?

jc...I already said they gave me a new phone. Why don't you quit while you're ahead.
No apps. I didn't install any new apps before "I noticed this behavior."

Sorry I misunderstood. I thought that you had been given a new battery. BTW. No offense intended in my original post. Based upon my mis-reading of your post, I was trying to be helpful by starting at one point and trying to elminate causes one by one.

Not much appreciation for the people who are commenting to help eh?
My question was about the notion these people at the AT&T store were handing me about the applications that were running in the backround, and if they were right about it making it impossible for me to charge my battery.I was given a brand new phone, so the issue of how could i get it to charge was OVER

Listen, I was just joking around with jcp. Albeit, I was very frustrated after dealing with the people at the store, who insisted on lecturing me about the Android OS, on which I am very well versed, and trying to come up with this screwy scenario whereby this mechanical error was my fault. So yeah, I was a little testy. Sorry, jcp. It was the AT&T store people I was pissed at.

No problem. I have had my share of run-ins with store reps who have trouble admitting that they don't know the answer. I would respect them more if they were honest in terms of their knowledge base.
