Spent the day researching how I was gonna root and set up my phone according to DL09 after a successful OTA push. I decided to root, had to go through the manual process with no issues. I then found probably the best ROM available from DL09 called Super Clean .4 and there is no bloatware to be found and runs super fast in ADW. Also proceeded to install the newish 12/30 JT Non-VooDoo Kernel and WOW this phone is the fastest it's ever been for me. Will keep updated on battery life and consumption as well as overall happiness. Would recommend this setup to anyone so far though and good luck if you decide to go with it! Hopefully I can help anyone looking to do it.

UPDATE 11/14/11:

Phone is only using 170MB of RAM rather than around 250 on stock.

I'll concur but I run a different ROM. SuperDarkDJ05. Same kernel AND DL09modem as well. I think that this kernel is the best bet so far for MY phone. My battery life has been phenomenal so far. And phone is snappy as hell. Lovin it.

I have ZERO complaints about not having 2.2 or 2.3. Don't NEED flash or apps2sd. But the Jt 12/30 test non voodoo so far for me is the best I've tried so far.

Thanks for agreeing! I may have to give that ROM a shot? What have you noticed with it?

I wanna try this, just a bit nervous about flashing a ROM. Any tips?

Look in the Sticky section of this forum and read DroidXcon's post "How I learned to flash a ROM". This helped me tremendously before I flashed my first Radio, Rom and Kernel just a few days ago

Here is a question for you I installed the jt super clean for dl09 now I want to install a new kernel the 12/30 one I hear so much about. All I have to do is reboot with CWM and clean cashe and the other cashe and flash right? lol if that is it I have done it right then.

well, I did something wrong I guess. I tried to flash something and wiped my phone. >.< and to top it off, even though I did a backup, when I tried to back it up it said the file was empty. so idk.

There's no need to clear data when installing a kernel. It's recommended for ROM installs but 99% of the time, you can get away with not doing it there either. I test new ROMs too frequently to be clearing and restoring everything all the time so I don't wipe data just out of convenience. Worst case, I have stock images and CWM restore points to go back to if something goes terribly wrong.

Ummm for kernel install it the same way you would a ROM, make sure to select backup and to clear cache.

Well great news everyone! I have had this setup for a while now and wow my battery life is up to 30 hours right now and I have used the phone a pretty normal amount. Never seen it last this long before. Highly recommended!

That's crazy. I'm running adrynalyne's very similar kernel and batt. life is good but not THAT good. Do you have no widgets? no extra homescreens? What's your secret? :)

Well, so far just 3 screens. Widgets are pandora, google, weather and power control. Brightness almost all the way down. I forgot to note I switched to the Adrynalyne kernel as well, oops! ;)

I have 5 screens running jorte, weather, tapatalk, pandora, winamp, stitcher and plume. Maybe that's the difference hah.

yeah, plus I hear power control stops your phone from trying to get everything 3g till you unlock it so that saves tons of batt.

i am running handcent and some other stuff now and i am posing even better results that i was before? wow this intense I just crossed 30 hours again but i still have 38 percent left and I have done some phone calls, plenty of searching on the web and lots of texting. absolutely astounded.

Hey,
Do u have any problem with GPS locking on? Can't seem to get mine to work..search for nave avail for over 5 mins and still can't lock in...tried different test kernels still no go..
