My charger is heating and not charging my phone

Today I tried charging my phone and the charger wasn't working. After around a minute I gave up and pulled the cord out of my phone and noticed that the charging port in my phone as well as the end of the cable were both extremely hot, to the point that it hurt to touch. I waited around 5 minutes and tried again and the same thing happened, extremely hot charger and no power in my phone. I have an HTC one m8, and i'm using the adapter that came with my phone and a usb cable that came with my Nexus 10 (which hasn't caused any problems in the past)

I wouldn't recommend using it anymore, you don't want to damage your phone.

Try a different charger. (They're pretty interchangeable.) If it still happens, there's probably a short in the phone. (If could be in the port, so if you have good eyesight, or are very nearsighted, use a strong light and look inside the port for dirt. If there is any, use a pointed wooden toothpick and gently clean the dirt out. If it's not in the port, it's in the phone, and the phone will have to go to the repair shop.)
